Best Asian Stocks To Buy Right Now

A review of prior week market movers that should continue exerting influence this week

Here's a rundown of fundamental and technical forces that moved markets last week and which are likely to continue exerting influence this week.

FUNDAMENTALS

Here's a rundown o f the main fundamental market drivers from last week that should continue to exert influence into this week and beyond.

1. - 2. Central Banks

On Thursday the BoJ boosted markets and the ECB knocked them down. We expect to see the impact of these central bank moves continue to influence markets this week.

1. BOJ Feeds Short Yen, Long Japanese Stock Trade

Last week the BoJ met expectations for a bold new easing plan, about 75% the size of the Fed's, for an economy only about one-third the size of the US. Japanese and related Asian equity and other risk asset markets loved it because:

They anticipate a boost to risk asset prices similar to that seen in the US from the Fed's stimulus programs. The asset purchases at the heart of the new program are done with new printed money, and that should devalue the JPY. Unlike the US, Japan is an export-oriented economy, so there should be at least some short term jump in exports.Markets are simply ignoring the potentially huge long term risks Japan is taking. Everyone knows what they are, but for now investors are happy to take the short term trade and not worry about the future.

As we've noted repeatedly in past posts, Japan cannot remain solvent without continued low borrowing costs, yet the massive new easing threatens to send those costs to levels that could bankrupt Japan.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Eric Volkman]

A larger-than-previously announced block of PGT's (NASDAQ: PGTI  ) shares is up for grabs. Major stockholder JLL Partners Fund has increased the size of its sale; it is now offering an even 10 million shares in an underwritten secondary public offering priced at $7.75 per share. Also, the issue's underwriters have been granted a 30-day option to buy up to an additional 1.65 million shares from the seller.

There's no foolproof way to know the future for PGT (Nasdaq: PGTI  ) or any other company. However, certain clues may help you see potential stumbles before they happen -- and before your stock craters as a result.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Amanda Alix]

Great news, indeed. For Bank of America, however, the announcement is less than joyful -- since it points out the fact that Swiss bank UBS (NYSE: UBS  ) now has the No. 1 spot, formerly occupied by B of A.

  • [By Dan Carroll]

That doesn't mean an investor can't win in high-wage countries overseas, however. Switzerland's workers rank among Europe's best-paid citizens, and its best businesses have emerged from the recession strong. The country's leading bank, UBS (NYSE: UBS  ) , has looked to put recent scandals behind it by cutting costs and focusing on its wealth-management business, a move that helped the bank easily top earnings expectations in the first quarter. All European banks are risky to some extent, with the region's fiscal crisis still ongoing, but UBS's moves to shore up its image and create a sounder business model could be a long-term winning strategy for this stock.

"There's a fundamental earnings recovery story in Europe that U.S. investors find quite compelling," said Gareth McCartney, a London-based managing director at UBS (UBS).

Rather than pick the obvious candidates, I also like to look for great stocks to buy that might not be on most investorsradar. Here are three such stocks to buy:

    InterActiveCorp (IACI)

InterActiveCorp (IACI) is Barry Diller conglomerate of internet companies, not terribly different from John Malone Liberty Interactive (LINTA). The strategy for IACI stock has been to wait for a leader in a given sector to emerge and then buy it up, or at least a portion of it. These businesses either have a history of generating lots of cash flow, or have the potential to do so.

  • [By Jake L'Ecuyer]

    Equities Trading UP
IAC/InterActiveCorp (NASDAQ: IACI) shot up 15.54 percent to $69.43 after the company reported that that it is reorganizing and that Greg Blatt, its CEO, will become the Chairman of the newly created Match Group.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By John Udovich]

Small cap machine-to-machine (M2M) stock Elecsys Corp (NASDAQ: ESYS) jumped 8.99% yesterday and is up 254% over the past year, meaning it might be time to take a closer look at the stock and its performance verses other small cap M2M stocks like Digi International Inc (NASDAQ: DGII), Numerex Corp (NASDAQ: NMRX) and Sierra Wireless, Inc (NASDAQ: SWIR). First of all though, I should mention that machine-to-machine (M2M) broadly refers to technologies that allow both wireless and wired systems to communicate with other devices of the same type and this can be through any type of technology ranging from instruments to networks to applications that create connections between devices.

That inflation rate wasn't a big help for Banco Santander Chile (NYSE: BSAC  ) , the fund's third-largest holding, which is a large bank that's inflation-sensitive and saw its net interest margin drop in its most recent quarter. However, many of the more important underlying fundamentals of Banco Santander Chile, such as loan growth and core deposits, increased year over year while net provision expenses for consumer loans dropped 3.8% year over year.
